What started as a reasonable guess degraded somewhere during that posting. Once the brain was empty, the fingers kept on a-typing. Unlike me, but....
The point was that the "invalid or nonexistant" document was more than likely to be some code or resource that wasn't available to the form import function (script library, shared action, image resource, or what have you). I've never run across that particular error message in a context where it was helpful -- one needs to keep in mind at all times and in all places that everything that's stored in an NSF is a document. Concentrating on data notes to the exclusion of all else leaves a big blind spot in one's examination of the problem.
I agree with you about the stored form in general, though. Knowing little about them stems from having used them only once, then finding a much better idea and sticking to that.
